Parque de la Bombilla (Mexico City)

El Parque de la Bombilla is a public park located in the neighborhood of San Angel, Alvaro Obregon district, south of Mexico City. The park and the monument are on memory of Alvaro Obregon. It opened on July 17, 1935.
The park was originally erected where the restaurant called "La Bombilla" was in the old Chimalistac orchards, where Alvaro Obregon, president of Mexico from 1920 to 1924 and elected president for the period 1928 to 1932, was murdered. The assassination occurred on July 17, 1928 and was carried out by José de León Toral.
== History ==

On the morning of July 17, 1928, Alvaro Obregon was invited out to lunch by the deputies of the State of Guanajuato in the restaurant "La Bombilla". José de León Toral rushed to the scene after several days of spying Obregon, and posed as a cartoonist. He drew a picture to several deputies, and finally arrived in Obregon, who also portrayed. When all the guests were neglected, Toral drew his pistol and fired six shots at Alvaro Obregon, who was killed instantly. The murderer was quickly arrested and some policemen tried to kill him, but the deputy Ricardo Topete saved him arguing its importance to solve the crime.
Construction of the park began in June 1934 during the presidency of General Abelardo L. Rodríguez and opened on July 17, 1935, in the same place where military statesman was killed by Leon Toral. The project was designed by architect Enrique Aragón Echegaray.
